Pilates with Gillian is a Physio-led class instructed by Gillian O’Kane, a fully qualified Chartered Physiotherapist trained through the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI) and is suitable for all levels and abilities from completely new to pilates to advanced practising.
Classes are 1 hour long and run in 8 week blocks, bookable in advance. Please book early to avoid disappointment.
The Pilates with Gillian Class is very technical and having a physiotherapist go through the five key elements associated with engaging your core, how to set your posture, and how to breathe correctly, will ensure you get the most out of your course and progress through the levels from beginner to advanced.
What to bring
Just yourself and some water! All the equipment required for the class is supplied.
What to wear
The key to the correct clothing for a Pilates class is comfort. Some prefer loose clothing, whilst others prefer well fitting gym wear, both is perfectly fine so long as you can move freely and comfortably.
Gillian advises you wear trainer socks for the class mat work, however if you have any knee complaints, it is advisable you do the warm up in trainers.
What to expect
Gillian will start with introductory session for all new beginners, to go through the key elements of your posture and position prior to the start of the 8 week block. Pilates classes are limited to maximum of 12 participants and are of mixed abilities. This enables Gillian to give adequate supervision and give each participant the attention they need throughout the class. There are a variety of levels demonstrated for each exercise, so be assured you can find the right level for you.
